Far Cry 5 is one of my top 5 games of 2018 so naturally I had to cover this gameplay walkthrough. It’s a short one, but there’s a lot to digest, so let’s get right to it.

One thing I immediately noticed is how good it looks. Ubisoft has always done a decent job trying to create a beautiful world in each entry of the series. This entry is no different as the clouds look just as real as normal clouds, explosions have such a nice ring and flare to them, and your dog looks damn good. I love dogs.

Early in the gameplay, your character drives a tractor and runs over one of the cult members which results in a gory explosion, followed by a silence machine gun spray of another cult member. A truck of reinforcements comes, and with a quick flick of dynamite stick, boom goes the truck and the fence surrounding the area. After the fight, our character decides to go fishing because what better thing to do than relax while Hope County burns at the hands of the wicked cult? I expect this to be implemented into a crafting system, if there is one, that we’ve been accustomed to in the series.

In the walkthrough, they go on to stop members of the cult from performing a forced baptism “stealthily”, and we get to see a new weapon, the revolver. Philippe Fournier, the guy giving us the walkthrough, says that we will be able to customize our weapons with attachments and color schemes, but I’d really love to see Ubisoft implement a weapon customization system similar to Homefront: The Revolution, where you can add and/or remove attachments on the fly. Boomer, our companion For Hire, aides us in combat, by sneaking up on a cult member and taking his weapon from them. Boomer can also aid us outside of combat by holding his ground against wild animals that look to harm us. Good boy Boomer.

We see a new vehicle called the Widowmaker, which is basically Optimus Prime minus the transforming. They go on to fight cultists at Nick Rye’s airplane garage, and liberate the garage with a swift swing of the new baseball bat. Finally, we get to see the all new airplane segments we can participate in. In the airplane expect to disrupt the cult’s plans by blowing their stuff up or participating in aerial dog fights against cultist members.

The overall formula for this series will probably never change since it works pretty well, but it’s gotten stale. It’ll be interesting to see what Ubisoft has in store for us to reinvigorate the series. Are you excited for the next entry in the series, or are you skipping it?
