Whole Bunch of More Gaming News

Let’s round up some more news.

Hey y’all. So I’m a bit busy trying to deep dive in Final Fantasy 7 Remake so I won’t have a review up for it this week. I figured why not round up some gaming news? Last time I did one of these, the support was amazing.

Also I think I took the police theme too far this time.

Here’s what’s going on in the gaming world.

Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil 8??

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thought this might happen especially after the wild amount of success Resident Evil 2/3 Remakes achieved. Well it looks like this might be a thing.

Could we see Leon S. Kennedy in 2022?

Multiple sources have told VGC that a remake is in the works and that it’s aiming for a 2022 release frame. Needless to say this has gotten some spicy attention for multiple reasons.

  1. Resident Evil 4 was seen as the pinnacle of the franchise.
  2. Resident 3 Remake wasn’t that well received due to its differences from the original so fans are afraid that Capcom will butcher it.

I’ve been going through Resident Evil 4 on my Twitch. Spoiler alert: It’s still pretty good.

Assuming this remake is a go, Capcom is looking to fill in the gaps with Resident Evil 8 (I’m assuming it’ll be called 8.) This game will see the return of Ethan Winters, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7, and it’ll bring back the first person play style RE7 introduced. Supposedly, this game will focus on Ethan’s sanity, introduce mythical creatures, and feature Ethan getting chased around by a witch. I also saw somewhere that Chris “Boulder Puncher” Redfield will be a villain which is quite a twist.

Crysis Remastered

I never got around to playing the first Crysis game because I never had a PC and even if I did, my PC most certainly could not run Crysis.

After years of silence since the release of Crysis 3, their Twitter came alive with a tweet that stoked fans’ excitement.

Everyone pretty much assumed the series’ return, and developer Crytek is looking to deliver with the remaster of the original Crysis. They even gave us a quick trailer.

Interestingly enough, this game is going to make it’s appearance on the Nintendo Switch. The memes came out in full force, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

After Crysis 2 made it’s debut on PS3, the original Crysis made the jump to console. I tried it out then, but boy was it not good at all. Don’t ever go backwards ladies and gentlemen. On topic, this is great news and hopefully we’ll get Crysis 2 and 3 remastered at some point.

PS5 Limited Launch/Controller Reveal

Despite what’s going on with COVID-19, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are still scheduled for a Holiday 2020 release. We have yet to see what the console will look like, but Sony did reveal what the controller will look like partially because leaks were bound to happen.

Very sleek.

At first I was a little confused, but the more I look at it, the better it looks. I think this also opens up the controller for some sick PlayStation inspired designs, which there are plenty on Twitter such as Death Stranding, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us. Conspiracy theory time… since the controller is white, will we be getting a white color scheme at launch? (it’s midnight at the time of me writing this, and I swear this just blew my mind).

The next piece of this puzzle is very interesting. According to Polygon, Sony is thinking of launching a limited number of PS5’s. This comes from two parts: they’re struggling with trying to figure out a price for the console and the components they need for the console are becoming very hard to find. This is in turn influencing the price point of the PS5 with reports saying it could launch at like $500 or more, and this was before the news broke of component scarcity. Keep in mind that the COVID-19 situation isn’t influencing the availability of the components either.

GTA 6 to Be Released in Parts?

Kotaku’s Jason Schreier put out a good read about developer Rockstar has made since Red Dead Redemption 2 saw its release. To recap, crunch (or working long ass hours to meet a game’s release date) was a big topic during the game’s release and Rockstar was really bad at managing it. To alleviate that stress, the rumors have suggested that they’re interested in releasing their next game in episodic fashion.

Personally, I don’t like episodic releases. In the long run, you’ll be spending more money purchasing the individual episodes and the wait is something I’ve never enjoyed. On an unbiased opinion, I think the benefit is that it will hopefully reduce the crunch factor on the developers. We’re actually experiencing it now with Final Fantasy 7 Remake being an episodic release, and my concern is if it takes so long to release the first episode, when will the next piece come out?

Honorable Mentions

  • Saints Row: The Third is getting a remaster set to release on May 22nd. I wish they’d do the first two over, but ya get what you get. Still a really good game, and my first of the series.
  • The Last of Us 2 has been delayed indefinitely. I know this is oldish news, but in case you missed it, here it is. Damn it coronavirus.

That’s all I got for recaps. Let me know if I missed something good!
