Holy shit.
Sony finally came out with guns blazing. Thursday June 11th marked their “Future of Gaming” event which should showcase everything PS5 related. For one hour and some change, viewers worldwide were blasted with trailer after trailer, spec after spec, and developer insight after developer insight.
I’m going to try my best to not sound like a fanboy, but boy was I on the verge of tears. Gaming is forever.
Anyways, let’s recap.
New Design, Who This?

We finally got a look at the fifth generation of PlayStation. Pretty sure if you go on social media the memes are hot on the new console’s design. In my opinion, it looks weird. I like the white color as it’s such a contrast to years of having the standard black color scheme. It’s just the design is weird, especially in the top part of the console. In Sony’s defense, the haven’t really changed the design on the last group of consoles so this looks like their first new design.
Interestingly enough, two versions are being launched with a Digital only edition (meaning no disc) or the standard console. I don’t know if there is a difference between the models (besides the disc or no disc), but it’s interesting. Also there’s going to be some hot accessories available yet there’s no indication if those are separate or with the console. I’m gonna assume they’re not included otherwise this bad boy would be $900 at launch.
Don’t Forget the Games
What good would this event be if they didn’t show any games?
Sony brought a bevy of trailers and some of them almost made me cry. I’m going to reference the biggest ones that made me excited, but I’ll mention the other games also.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
This blew my mind. I didn’t expect a sequel so quickly not to mention it’s a freaking launch title.
Correction: I guess this is actually going to be an expansion not a full on sequel.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Everybody at Insomniac Games needs a raise. It’s been years since we got a Ratchet & Clank game and with Spider-Man being the biggest project they’ve been working on, we assumed the duo was on the shelf for now. Yet here they are, however, since the last entry was a remake of the first ever game, I have no idea where this fits in with the story timeline. Holy shit though does this game look amazing, and there was some gameplay showing how the rifts work and combat. Looks phenomenal, and it made me so happy to see Insomniac still hold the duo close to their hearts.
Bring back Resistance plz.
Resident Evil Village (read as REVIII or RE8 in the trailer)
You ever see rumors/leaks of a game that just sound so outrageous that you don’t believe it just to have the leakers be proved right when the official trailer drops? This is that moment. I don’t know what the fuck is going on, but I love it. Resident Evil 7 was so damn good, I just hope this game is longer than 4 hours.
Hitman 3
Deemed as the last entry in the new group of games, Agent 47 is tasked with his hardest job yet. The trailer looked good, and these games have always been pretty solid so I might give this a shot.
Horizon Forbidden West
We’ve pretty much known for awhile a sequel was coming with job postings and I think Aloy’s voice actor said they were working on one. Needless to say, we’ll be jumping back into the machine world with Aloy venturing out west to fight and ride some more machines. You have my interest Guerrilla Games.
Demon’s Souls
One of friends was hoping for this. I thought it seemed far fetched, but boy did he get what he wanted. I’ve never played this game, but I know this is where the Souls games all started, and it looks better now than it did when it originally came out. I always thought it was called Demon Souls, not Demon’s Souls.
Deathloop
Dishonored with guns. Yes.
Honorable Mentions
Grand Theft Auto V: This game won’t give up. It’s about to be the next Skyrim aka getting ported to every generation of console ever. It’s getting a port to PS5 with it being free for PS Plus users on launch in 2021.
Grand Turismo 7: I’m not a racing game person, but the details in these games have always been astounding. This game looks to keep that trend alive.
Project Athia: I’m not sure if this was the Unreal Engine demo from a month or two ago, but it looks interesting.
Returnal: Okay at first I thought this looked dumb, but after watching the full trailer it looks cool. It’s Groundhog Day in space.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure: I don’t care who you are, if you don’t love the Sackboy we can’t be friends. LONG LIVE THE KING.
Destruction Allstars: Cars and fighting in an arena. Vroom Vroom.
Stray: Cats. That’s all I got.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits: Okay this actually looked kind of fun and two of the developers are actually brothers. Go support them.
Oddworld Soulstorm: I’ve never played these games, but the folks in the comments section are happy so I’m happy for them.
GhostWire: Tokyo: I swear I thought I was watching an episode of Bleach. Graphically speaking, this game looks incredible, and the gameplay seems interesting. Fight ghosts with ninjutsu. Easy peasy.
Godfall: Hey this game made an appearance! This is a launch title for PS5, and it looks like Warframe. I’m interested to see more as we get closer to launch.
Solar Ash: The developers of this game also made Hyper Light Drifter, which I’ve never played but the art style is unique and gorgeous.
Little Devil Inside: I’m convinced that this game takes place inside of a man’s body similar to Osmosis Jones.
Bugsnax: I thought I was tripping when I watched this trailer. The ending was actually hilarious so who knows? Maybe this could be good.
NBA 2K21: You know the drill when it comes to these games.
Pragmata: Not to be that guy, but I thought this was Death Stranding. Then when I realized there were no babies, I thought this was Dead Space. It’s neither 😦 but it could still be cool!
Conclusion

This presentation was good. I’m a PS guy so I’m hyped with what was shown. The design is going to take some time to get used too, but other than that the future is bright. Oddly enough at the time of me writing this, God of War is trending which has boss man Cory Balrog losing his mind.

Just some minor disappointments that I had with the event was the fact that pricing is still not available (which is understandable), and the fact that we didn’t see anything like Dead Space or Batman. I get that’s not Sony’s fault, I was just hoping we would.
Another I wonder is how many of these games won’t see the light of day. With every game presentation or reveal, there’s always a game or two that never release. Remember Deep Down announced in February 2013 for PS4?
I will say it’s crazy to think that we’re moving very fast to the next generation. Get ready folks, it’s gonna be a wild ride.
