Ubisoft stands tall.
Hey all. Hope ya’ll are staying safe in this post apocalyptic world (just kidding). I’ve been busy gaming (Still haven’t beat The Last of Us Part 2 and FFVII Remake), and I got a gaming PC to boost my streaming productions so I’ve been busy as heck. Also I feel like there hasn’t been a lot of gaming news to discuss, but I found something to talk about so we’re back.
Enough about me. Ubisoft held their digital event, Ubisoft Forward, to showcase what they have coming up. I don’t think it was the best, but I’m pretty sure people only wanted to see Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6, which they brought. Let’s talk about it, and if there’s any chance you want to watch it, here’s the link to the full stream.
Hyper Scape and Other Things
In case you somehow missed it, Hyperscape is Ubisoft’s foray into the battle royale genre on PC. It took over Twitch a few weeks ago along with the Twitch Drops allowing players access to the game. It’s now officially in Open Beta so now everybody has a chance to play the arena style BR. I tried it, and I thought it was cool, but I think everybody is pretty much over the battle royales so who knows how long this will last.
Besides the heavy hitters, Ubisoft didn’t really show too much. They teased a mobile game, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad which looked… interesting. I’m just sad they’re putting Splinter Cell star Sam Fisher in every game except his own. If they did that to the Prince from Prince of Persia, I’d riot.
They also celebrated 5 (freaking 5) years of Rainbow Six Siege and stated that AI companions are coming to Ghost Recon Breakpoint, almost a year after launch.
I think that was it for the smaller things. Wait there was also the chat spamming !watchdogs2 because UPlay was down meaning people couldn’t earn any of the stream rewards. Pretty funny tbh.
Let’s talk bigger.
Watch Dogs: Legion
The Watch Dogs series has had a bumpy ride. The first game was supposed to be this great escapade, and while I thought it was good, it didn’t perform as well as it should’ve due to Ubisoft’s notorious downgrading. Watch Dogs 2 was incredibly good, but again, due to the first game’s performance, fans were skeptical, and the second suffered due to it.
So here we are with Watch Dogs Legion being the next in line, with an even grander scope than the previous games. Watch the trailer first before you keep reading. Skip to 8 minutes in for actual footage.
Not gonna lie, this does not look good to me. I feel like Ubisoft has to be one of the deafest developers out there as they continue to make large worlds that are empty. I feel like the second game nailed a better formula with likable characters, but this game just doesn’t seem right to me. The endless possibilities of different characters and approaches seems great, but again, that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Just to preface my opinion, I loved the second game. I just feel like this is going a step in the wrong direction for the series.
I’m going to try it, and maybe it’ll be good or better than how it looks to me. Just right now, it’s not looking hot.
Play as anybody you want October 29th, 2020.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
I’m pretty sure everybody was waiting for this and some actual gameplay.
This actually looked good. Graphically speaking, it looked incredible. Gameplay wise, it looked like what we’ve been getting with the last two entries. Ubisoft actually showed off a ton of footage showcasing the new and brutal combat, boating, and typical viking stuff.
They gotta go back to the drawing board after this game though. I feel like we’ve strayed too far away from the Assassin’s Creed, if you catch my drift. The RPG elements are also getting old really quick.
Sorry if I’m coming off as negative, but I’d really love to see Ubisoft try their hand with a real assassin type game. For now though, this looks good. Let’s just hope it’s not obnoxiously large like Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla conquers November 17th, 2020.
Far Cry 6
Not gonna lie I was a little disappointed this got leaked before the event. I’ll get over it, but I don’t think I’ll get over the fact that Giancarlo Esposito is the main villain in Far Cry 6. If you don’t know him, he plays Gus Fring in “Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul” and he’s wicked good villain.
Something else that blew my mind is the conspiracy theory that Esposito’s in game son, Diego, could possibly be Vaas from Far Cry 3. Eye test alone he looks just like him, and it made me excited because I want it to be true. No gameplay was shown, but this definitely got me excited.
Far Cry 6 hits February 18th, 2020.
That’s all I got though. Did anything catch your eye or do you have different opinions on the games I talked about? Let me know!
