E3/Summer Game Fest News

Gaming never sleeps. Only I do.

Before I start, I just want so say I’ve been so deep in gaming that I’ve missed a lot of news. Apologies!

That being said I am working on a review for Resident Evil Village, as I am finally almost done with my play through so expect that semi soonish. On topic though, E3 has been going in full swing since June 12th, and over the weekend, we got a ton of cool gaming news and tidbits that I wanted to cover.

Elden Ring

Okay to be honest, I am god awful at these games. I don’t know why; maybe I just have no patience, maybe I hate grinding, maybe I just suck at games where I have to think. That being said…

I’m still going to give this a try.

From Software’s latest concoction, featuring George R. R. Martin, was announced during E3 2019 and disappeared right after announcement. Nothing much was said, until now, we finally have been given a trailer and a release date of January 21, 2022.

I did find this dank meme from Twitter that I thought I’d share. (I forgot who posted plz don’t get mad).

Halo Infinite

I’ve never really been much of a Halo dude for two reasons;

  1. I grew up with PlayStation products.
  2. When I did try them out, they didn’t feel like anything special.

After finally being on PC for a little over a year, I think this actually looks pretty interesting. I think the biggest thing is the multiplayer has been announced to be free which is massive with how jam packed the Holiday season is with shooters, which we will get to soon.

Holiday 2021 is when Halo Infinite is scheduled to release, and until then, you can catch me trying to play the multiplayer.

Battlefield 2042

This game looks to be Battlefield’s attempt at futuristic warfare.

It’s been a long time coming, 10 years to be exact, since a modern entry of Battlefield hit the stage. Battlefield 2042 seems to push the envelope a little further with a more futuristic approach almost like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. I think the trailer looked good, giving us a look at the new dynamic weather system, a real time customizable weapon system like the Crysis series had, and explosions. Can’t forget the explosions.

Now, hear me out. With the rumors that Call of Duty is going back to WW2 this fall, this may be Battlefield’s best chance to topple Call of Duty and make a run for top shooter. Needless to say, this holiday season is going to be a good one!

The game is scheduled for release on October 22, 2021.

Guardians of the Galaxy

THIS COMPLETELY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD!!!!!

It’s so weird seeing recreations of all the characters in video games since they aren’t allowed to use the actual actors.

On topic though, I don’t know about this one. This is a Square Enix product, and their last Marvel attempt didn’t turn out too well. That being said, this is a completely story driven experience so there is hope for the game. It just looks a lot like the Avengers game from a gameplay point of view.

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for an October 26, 2021 release.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

I mean sure why not.

I forgot when this game got announced, but I know it’s been quite some time. We finally got a trailer during Ubisoft’s conference, and while it gave us nothing, I’m interested to see what this game tries to do. Massive Entertainment, the dev team behind this title, is known for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 so could this be a familiar style of game?

Edit: Just read an article saying the game is going to be an open world, first person action adventure. So maybe more like Far Cry?

Where the heck is the second Avatar movie by the way?

Starfield is a Microsoft Exclusive

Much noise was made by Microsoft when they purchased Bethesda early on in the year, and how it would affect Bethesda’s products. Needless to say, Bethesda’s newest project, one that’s completely original, is going to be an exclusive and launch November 11, 2022.

If you really want to play this, grab and Xbox Series X or a PC. You have plenty of time.

Long live the king: The Outerworlds 2 is real

Okay I was just not expecting this either.

I loved The Outer Worlds. I never expected a sequel, but for a game that performed pretty dang well, I guess it only made sense. There’s nothing much in this trailer besides some good humor and play on reveal trailers.

Cheers Obsidian!

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland

More Borderlands? Yes please.

I like Tiny Tina, and this spin off seems like it has promise. I guess it’s going to be like the core Borderlands experience combined with a fantasy world backdrop. I’m really interested to see how that manage to pull this off, but with the star studded cast of Will Arnett and Andy Samberg, I know the character line up will be good.

The main star of the show? Butt Stallion.

Coming “early 2022”.

Rainbow Six Extraction

To this day, I’m mad Ubisoft pulled the Quarantine mode from Rainbow Six Siege. I guess this will do.

The video description gives a very detailed insight, citing cross-play and cross-save and instant access to all Operators if you have Siege already. Huge gameplay details were mentioned such as a risk/reward scenario with your Operators participating in missions. It seems pretty in depth, I just hope the execution is good.

Rainbow Six Extraction is scheduled to release September 16, 2021.

Overall, I thought E3 was okay. It hasn’t been mind-blowing for quite some time now, but I appreciate any little tidbits. I will say I was at work the entire time E3 happened so I might’ve missed a lot of little things so I apologize in advance. We do have plenty of gaming to look forward to though.

Here’s to the Fall/Holiday season!

  1. I think this year’s E3 was one of the best. While I would have liked to see more from 343 Industries on Halo Infinite and Dice on Battlefield 2042 I have enjoyed looking at the Microsoft exclusives they’ve been doing.
