X Gonna Give it to Ya- Tom Clancy’s XDefiant Reveal

Had to do it.

Late Sunday evening, content creators and gaming outlets are posting little clips of what looked to be Ubisoft’s next multiplayer endeavor with the full reveal scheduled for Monday. The clips showed fast paced multiplayer gameplay that almost looked like Warface: Breakout (not a good comparison by the way). Nice little hype builder.

Fast forward Monday, and Ubisoft hit us with their new multiplayer title Tom Clancy’s XDefiant described as “a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters – called Defiants – battle for domination.

Okay to be fair, I don’t think it looks as bad as it sounds. There are different factions all sourced from the Tom Clancy universe, your characters have skills similar to Overwatch.. Wait I think that’s it. The game looks like it drew from Overwatch with the faster pace of Call of Duty and then some Fortnite because why not?

I think the biggest red flag is in the description by the words of “Free to Play” and “Ubisoft” (second one isn’t in the description but you know what I mean). Ubisoft has a track record of moving towards games as a service, including the news of the next Assassin’s Creed game following the live service trend, and that’s pissing everyone off. That being said, the reaction to this game has been tough.

Like to dislike ratio is crazy.
This one was tough to read.

I don’t believe there is a set release date, but there is a closed PC test on August 5th that you can try signing up for here. My thoughts on this? Well it’s free so you can always try it and never play it again if you don’t like it. I’m interested to see more gameplay and get more info, but I don’t have my hopes sky-high for this one. It’ll be a filler as we gear up for another Holiday season of gaming.

What do you think?
