The King will be Back- EA Play Live Recap

Yeah yeah yeah I’m really behind on my news.

At this point it’s been a few weeks since EA held their EA Play Live event, a live broadcast where EA came out and spoke about their upcoming titles. Most of the stuff I didn’t really care for, but two things stuck out to me, and I’m pretty sure you can guess which one’s they are….

RETURN OF THE KING: Dead Space Remake

I don’t remember my first time playing Dead Space, but I know that as a giant chicken, I loved it. Something about the gameplay and overcoming your fears really made me appreciate how I spent nights sleeping with one eye open and had to shower because of fear sweats.

Sob story aside, it’s been damn near 10 years since we received anything Dead Space related with the closure of developer Visceral Games basically spelling doom for the series. Many teases and prayer circles later, we finally are going to be returning to the USG Ishimura.

Since it took me forever to cover this event, a couple of new tidbits have been coming up.

  • While I honestly hoped for a release in 2021, reports are pointing to a 2022 release as long as everything goes to plan.
  • It is going to be a new team working on it. EA Motive will be helming the remake, but fear not. Many veterans from the original title will be voicing their opinions and sharing insight to make this as good as possible.
  • The team will be drawing inspiration from 2018’s God of War, as they look to make this as cinematic and immersive as possible.
  • One of the biggest notes is the technical goals they hope to achieve: zero load times, new gameplay, story and visuals. Expect to see content cut from the original because of “technical limitations”.
  • Another big piece, and maybe it’s just me, the team working on this is pretty solid. A few of the Assassin’s Creed‘s devs are taking big positions on the team such as Eric Baptizat (Assassin’s Creed Origins and Black Flag).

I have hope for this, and at the same time, I find it ironic that EA green lit this after going on record about games as a service and single player are “dead”. Maybe their success with Mass Effect Legendary Edition changed their mind.

Please don’t mess this up.

Battlefields of Old? Battlefield: Portal

Okay this seems pretty interesting. Battlefield: Portal is a new custom mode creator coming to Battlefield 2042, where players can create random modes using assets from previous Battlefield titles. Create your wildest matchups as Germans from 1942 versus Americans from 2042, create a tank versus 20 EOD bots, or even create something insanely unique on some of Battlefield’s finest maps like Arica Harbor or Caspian Border.

I can’t wait to try out some of the crazy stuff players come up with, my only pain is the fact that they’ll give us this but not Bad Company 3. That being said, I am excited for a return to modern Battlefield since it’s been ages.

EA I am begging you.

Please don’t mess this up. Don’t mess any of this up.
